What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join the Electronic Parts Program (EPP). In this role, you will partner across Sandia ND, other SNL Centers, and external entities to standardize engineering processes, drive qualification strategies, and manage component lifecycle risks. You'll lead cross-functional teams from planning through execution, coordinating failure investigations with KCNSC, representing EPP in CFIUS cases, and facilitating technical reviews and strategic read-ins. By managing schedules, budgets, risks, and technical deliverables, you will ensure program health across stockpile, modernization, and SPP efforts. Success requires strong technical organization, stakeholder collaboration, and the ability to operate independently in a multi-center environment. To succeed in this role, you¿ll need to be exceptionally organized, build trusted relationships across multi-disciplinary teams, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where you operate with minimal guidance to deliver mission-critical outcomes
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Build and nurture relationships across Sandia's ND organization and other SNL Centers engaging technical teams, Mission Services, procurement, supply chain partners, and Systems teams to align on best practices for parts acceptance, qualification, and risk mitigation
- Lead the implementation of existing and newly created engineering processes and standards within the Electronic Parts Program (EPP) and associated modernization and SPP programs
- Oversee cross-functional project teams in planning, tracking, and executing program plans from initiation through completion managing schedules, resources, and deliverables to meet stakeholder expectations
- Drive EPP program implementation and parts strategy across Systems and Major Component (MC) programs, collaborating with SNL Supply Chain, procurement, and Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) partners to track critical part status, address obsolescence or availability risks, and execute technical risk-mitigation plans across stockpile, active modernization, and SPP efforts
- Serve as the primary EPP liaison to KCNSC engineers and site leads coordinating failure investigations, root-cause analyses, and process-improvement actions for commercial electronic parts
- Represent EPP in Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) cases integrating with Sandia, DOE, and government CFIUS teams, responding to inquiries, and ensuring compliance to secure necessary approvals
- Lead cross-functional EPP working sessions, defining requirements, evaluating new part candidates, and advancing qualification test plans with design, test, logistics, and customer stakeholders
- Plan, organize, and facilitate technical and program reviews, preparing briefing packages, presentations, and action-item trackers for internal leadership and external customer or government program managers
- Monitor and report on overall program health, tracking schedules, technical deliverables, risk profiles, and resource needs for EPP initiatives across ND and other Sandia divisions
- Partner with federal program offices, external suppliers, and industry consortia to align parts-acceptance/qualification efforts and technical requirements with evolving mission needs
- Host strategic planning sessions and ¿read-ins¿¿capturing lessons learned, updating stakeholders on emerging part-risk trends, and driving continuous improvement in EPP processes
- Proactively identify technical and schedule bottlenecks, independently developing and executing corrective plans, and reporting status and issues to management, FPOs, MCs, and Systems teams
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$102,400 - $199,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 5 years of directly relevant experience; or equivalent (AS + 9 years or no degree + 13 years)
- An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start
Qualifications We Desire:
- 5+ years of professional experience in supply-chain or systems-engineering roles supporting complex, mission-critical programs
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional, multi-center project teams, managing schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and deliverables from initiation through completion
- Skilled at planning and facilitating technical reviews and program reviews, preparing briefing packages, presentations, and action-item trackers for technical, executive, and government audiences
- Proven ability to develop and execute parts-strategy and supply-chain risk-mitigation plans for commercial electronic components
- Hands-on experience with parts acceptance and qualification processes, failure investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective-action implementation
- Familiarity with Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) workflows, export-control requirements, and government-approval processes
- Experience integrating with Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) engineering and supply-chain teams
- Experience engaging industry consortia or external partners on parts-qualification and supply-chain best practices
- Strong stakeholder-management skills: ability to build and sustain trusted relationships across R&D, procurement, supply chain, logistics, Mission Services, Systems, and federal program offices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting reports, briefing slides, and executive summaries for diverse audiences
About Our Team:
Department 7647, the High-Reliability Commercial Technologies System & Program Integration Department, serves as the central liaison and program office for the Electronic Parts Program (EPP), driving the integration of high-reliability commercial electronics into Major Component (MC) designs, Systems programs, modernization efforts and Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP). The department aligns internal engineering teams including Systems, MC designers, and commercial component experts, with external partners such as the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), NNSA and DoW stakeholders, federal program offices, and industry consortia. By establishing program-level parts strategies, securing mission funding, and embedding industry-standard qualification and acceptance methodologies alongside partner departments across Center 7640, Department 7647 ensures technical rigor, risk mitigation, and unified best practices for commercial microelectronics across the national security enterprise.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
