Summary

The Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers (TXCH) Research Coordinator III is responsible for implementation and coordination of all aspects of clinical trial activities for multi-site and local studies. Implements, coordinates and manages multisite projects and serves as the liaison between the outside sites and the coordinating center. The Research Coordinator III will perform clinical research duties requiring critical thinking skills and high-level knowledge of study protocols.

Job Duties

  • Interview, screen, and recruit patients for therapeutic and non-therapeutic studies; perform the subject consent process for biology, procurement, and registry studies; explain processes and procedures to educate participants regarding the research study.
  • Collaborate with the study team and physicians to assist in determining patient eligibility for research protocols.
  • Collect patient information through direct patient interviews, questionnaires, and chart abstractions; process documents and enter information into databases or case report forms.
  • Collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in the study protocol and SOPs. Maintain study records and regulatory documents for research studies.
  • May schedule research participants for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, X-rays, and other studies specific to the research protocol; retrieve and submit test results to the appropriate party.
  • Order supplies and equipment.
  • Establish study files and prepare and oversee study-related documentation:
    • Create and maintain research charts.
    • Update internal and external databases per departmental, sponsor, or study requirements.
    • Track and report AEs and SAEs.
  • Participate in ASH Research Collaborative Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trial Network activities and Community Advisory Board (CAB) activities by engaging in scheduling meetings and coordinating sessions to guide research activities as part of ASH CTN. These activities include, but are not limited to:
    • Interact with ASH RC staff.
    • Participate in organizing and electing the CAB chair and vice chair.
    • Attend monthly ASH research coordinator meetings.
    • Receive training/resources to support CAB coordination.
    • Receive and distribute ASH RC resources and gift items to CAB members.
    • Coordinate monthly virtual meetings of our institution’s CAB.
    • Coordinate monthly virtual prep meetings with the CAB chair and vice chair.
    • Coordinate in-person CAB meetings, which include venue, menu, invitations, gift items/resources.
    • Work closely with the PI and Co-PI to plan meetings, including drafting agendas/presentations for review prior to meetings.
    • Coordinate dissemination of CAB stipends to members.
    • Coordinate any CAB-associated research studies.
  • Serve as the research coordinator/data manager for all research studies that come through the ASH network; this, in particular, emphasizes cross-institutional collaboration on research protocols.
  • Work with the PI to complete feasibility and implementation requirements prior to study activation.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Hematology background or field of study.
  • Previous Research Coordinator experience.
  • Multisite clinical research coordination experience.
  • Strong data management/data entry experience.
  • Experience with AE/SAE reporting.
  • Experience with EPIC and Excel.
  • GCP and CITI training/certification.
  • SOCRA or ACRP certification is a plus, but not critical.
