As a Phlebotomy Lab Technician, you will collectblood samplesfrom patients inan outpatient setting as well aspackagethem for transport and deliverthem to theappropriatelocation.Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens.

Acaregiver in this positionworksvariable hours between7:30AM –5:00PM, including every other weekend and holiday.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform blood collection procedures and related tasks.

  • Verify order requests andidentifyinginformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit to be tested by analytical staff.

  • Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.

  • Follow venipuncture procedures andmaintainappropriate logsheets.

  • Greet patients warmly and professionally at checkin, whenthey present to outpatient lab desks or when entering a patient's room.

  • Complete test request entry and specimen receipt using lab computer.

  • Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging for transport, for all specimen types.

  • Communicate essential information toappropriate personnel.

  • Pick up and deliverblood, other sample types and lab supplies toappropriate areas.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Graduate of Phlebotomy Program OR one year of specimen collection experience

  • Computer experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Formal Phlebotomy certification

  • One year experience with specimen collection and laboratory techniques and procedures

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
