Summary

The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine seeks outstanding physician-scientist applicants for the Director of the Beth K. and Stuart C. Yudofsky Division of Neuropsychiatry.

Division Director responsibilities will include establishing an independent translational research program in neuropsychiatry and related fields in psychiatric neuroscience. The Director will also be responsible for the development and management of a clinical neuropsychiatry practice. A major focus of the applicant will be to forge new collaborations with Division investigators, mentor/supervise trainees, oversee academic activities, and expand opportunities for extramural research support, including future NIH and Texas-based funding initiatives such as the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT) and related programs. The Director will also have general administrative responsibilities over the entire division.

The position comes with substantial resources, including endowed funds, ample space, and start-up funding. The Department has major programmatic strengths essential to neuropsychiatry translational research and clinical care. These strengths include advanced brain imaging, brain injury medicine and neuromodulation (e.g., deep brain stimulation (DBS), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and low intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU). The Division Director will report to the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, Wayne Goodman, M.D.

The Director will also be encouraged to collaborate with faculty members across other departments (e.g., Neurosurgery, Neurology and Neuroscience) and to utilize resources throughout the School of Medicine, including resources located within the Brain Imaging Center, such as research-dedicated Siemens Prisma 3T scanners. The primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Psychiatry with the possibility of dual appointments in one or more other appropriate departments at Baylor College of Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD and eligibility for a Texas medical license
  • History as a successful clinician-researcher in clinical, translational, or basic research with a strong record of extramural federal funding

Preferred:

  • Board-certified in Psychiatry, Neurology, or Neuropsychiatry
  • Current NIH funding will be given highest priority
  • Demonstrated success obtaining or leading competitive extramural funding, including federal (e.g, NIH, DOD), foundation, or industry-supported grants
