Job Description

Summary

The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a research assistant to support the Cardiovascular Surgery Research program within the Heart Center. Under the direction of the principal investigator, the research assistant will provide support during animal surgeries for biomedical devices such as artificial hearts, LVAD, and electrophysiology devices.

Job Duties

  • Perform animal laboratory experiments under the direction of the lab director and principal investigator
  • Support instrument and equipment maintenance/sterilization
  • Review relevant scientific literature and summarize findings
  • Record results and document outcomes of experiments in accordance with established protocols
  • Provide supervision of animals in conjunction with Center for Comparative Medicine staff
  • Assist as a surgical technician during animal procedures

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Preference given to MD/DVM candidates from international medical schools.
  • Preferred experience in a surgical setting.

Work Authorization Requirement:
