Position description:
The Department Human Anatomy & Cell Science invites applications for a full-time tenured or probationary (tenure-track) position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, commencing September 1, 2026, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science, in collaboration with the Manitoba Centre for Proteomics and Systems Biology, is seeking to expand translational cancer research through innovative approaches to interrogate functional protein states in clinically relevant cell and tissue specimens. This includes emerging spatially resolved and imaging-based proteomic strategies, analysis of post-translational modifications, and integration with complementary multi-omic datasets to define signaling networks and cellular interactions in situ across cell-based and in vivo model systems.

The department seeks to expand existing pre-clinical and translational cancer research and specifically invites researchers with the potential to build multidisciplinary and translational research teams. This position will intersect with and support the department’s research strengths in brain tumors (primary and metastatic) and cell stress mechanisms. Candidates with a research interest in the interactions between tumor cells and resident brain cells are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching activities at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. It is expected that the candidate will participate in service activities for the department, the university and the community.

The successful candidate will develop a strong, externally funded and nationally recognized research program that integrates with and expands upon the departments’ research strengths. Preference will be given to applicants with a research program suitable for both health (CIHR) and fundamental science (NSERC) funding. Candidates demonstrating innovative tissue-based and spatial proteomic methodologies, including applications in pre-clinical cancer models, are encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to take a collaborative team-based approach to building a successful research program that will attract and retain talented trainees. The successful candidate will apply to local and provincial funding opportunities and will receive start-up funds to set-up their research lab. The successful candidate is expected to apply to the Canada Foundation for Innovation John R. Evans Leaders Fund (CFI-JELF) to complement existing infrastructure and equipment in the department.

The department houses the electron microscopy core platform and the histology service facility of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as the departmental microscopy imaging suite and the brain tumor cell and tissue resource in support of translational brain tumor research. The candidate will have access to 3D imaging, super-resolution and confocal imaging, transmission electron microscopy, histomorphology facilities, a recently expanded zebrafish facility, and an established mammalian animal facility with animal imaging capabilities (PET-MRI, micro-CT, IVIS bioluminescence and ultrasound). The Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science has fourteen full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and two instructors and has a strong track record of teaching excellence to different educational programs in the health professions at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level. This position will strengthen current and planned translational and proteomic cancer research programs in the newly formed School of Biomedical Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Department and the School through excellence in teaching, development of a strong and externally funded program of research, and engage in service contributions to the University and broader academic/professional community.

Exceptional candidates will be considered with the qualifications outlined below:

Qualifications:
Assistant Professor: The successful candidate will have a PhD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent, a minimal postdoctoral experience of 2-3 years, have demonstrated consistent research productivity, and employ innovative approaches in functional proteomic analysis of patient biospecimens and/or preclinical animal tissues. The department offers mentorship for the candidate’s research program and teaching activities.

Associate Professor: The successful candidate will have a PhD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent, previous experience as principal investigator supervising graduate students and facilitating a successfully funded research program. They will have demonstrated excellent research productivity and employ innovative approaches in functional proteomic analysis of patient biospecimens and/or preclinical animal tissues. Evidence for leadership in team-based interdisciplinary research contributions are an asset.
