City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

The Food Service Worker II may work anywhere on property where food is prepared. This person may assist in setup and serving of food from counters and steamtables. The FSW II may be responsible for handling cash and credit transactions from customers. Duties will include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and workstations. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but City of Hope may identify other responsibilities of the position

As a successful candidate, you will:

Responsible for the setup and assembly of meals from tray-line and/or kitchen:

    • Reads production orders on color-coded menu cards on trays to determine items to place on tray, and places items, such as eating utensils, napkins and condiments on trays.
    • Apportions and places food servings on plates and trays according to diet list on menu card.
    • Examines filled tray for completeness and places it on cart, dumbwaiter or conveyor belt.
    • May set up stations with entrées, soups, salads, breads, condiments, other food products and utensils:
    • Serve and replenish food from counters and steam tables (sometimes using a conveyor food-belt) and break down stations at the end of meal periods.
    • Brew coffee and tea.
  • May set up and stock the beverage area, grab and go items, service ware and condiments or other assigned areas. May be required to restock other beverage areas.
  • May be required to prepare for service before the meal and clean the dining room after the meal (wiping tables, vacuuming the floor, cleaning chairs, ensuring the acceptable appearance of the dining area).
  • May operate a cash register (or equivalent), receive payments of cash, checks and charges from customers or employees for goods or services, and make change and issue receipts or tickets to customers.
    • Responsible for accurate ring of proper PLU for sale items and/or accurate barcode scan.
    • Maintains proper security of cash at all times.
    • Understands and follows City of Hope cash-handling policies and procedures.
  • May assist in locating, reconciling and verifying the accuracy of transactions and operate peripheral equipment that records and supports non-cash transactions.
  • May interact with customers in the serving, retail and dining areas, assisting customers with opening containers and cutting food when requested. Provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times.
  • May be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing workstations, counters, steam tables and other equipment. May wash dishes and clean work area, tables, cabinets and ovens.
  • Takes and inputs patient meal orders.
  • Assists patients in ordering food items, such as sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages. May assemble trays and serve food items to patients, guests or health care staff in the cafe.
  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training. Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments. Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures and reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

Minimum Education:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • 2-3 years work experience.

Req. Certification/Licensure:

  • Food Handlers Card
