City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.
Position Summary
This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care to oncology patients undergoing surgical procedures. The Operating Room Clinical Nurse IV will oversee clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care, as well as the quality of nursing practice and intraoperative standards of care. You will coordinate patient care by directing staff and functions on the unit (while maintaining clinical nursing practice skills), support staff development, resource management, compliance with clinical standards, and foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence. Your expertise will directly impact patient outcomes. Serves as a role model and clinical resource to colleagues, staff, and patients. This opportunity is for full-time, day shifts. Call is a requirement for this position.

As a successful candidate, you will:
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to nursing staff and surgical team members for all surgical procedures.
- Coordinate and manage daily OR schedules, case assignments, and staffing to optimize workflow and patient care.
- Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for oncology-related surgical procedures and perioperative oncology nursing practices.
- Monitor patient care outcomes and ensure adherence to institutional protocols, safety standards, and infection control practices.
- Facilitate preoperative and postoperative communication between interdisciplinary teams, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, oncology specialists, and recovery staff.
- Lead or participate in performance improvement initiatives, audits, and quality assurance programs.
- Assist with onboarding, orientation, and continued education of OR staff on oncology-specific procedures, treatments, and technologies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for problem-solving and issue resolution on the OR floor during assigned shifts.
- Ensure proper use and availability of specialized equipment and supplies needed for surgery.
- Collaborate with leadership to address patient flow, resource utilization, and operational efficiency in the OR.
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing is required.
- Current California RN license.
- Minimum of three (3) years related experience, preferred background in oncology nursing.
- Requirement of 1-year perioperative experience or a formal Perioperative nursing specialty course completed prior to application or within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association
- ACLS through American Heart Association
- Current National certification (CNOR) is required and must be maintained to retain CN IV status. City of Hope (Nursing Excellence Department and HR) approve certifications which are a subset of ANCC Magnet-recognized certifications as updated in ANCC Demographic Data Collection Tool. (DDCT)

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $66.58 - $96.54 / hour
