Summary
Seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized individual to join a research team focused on understanding the genetics and pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The technician will participate in studies directed by Dr. Cristian Lasagna-Reeves in the Department of Neurology. The research integrates experimental genetic approaches using genetic mouse models as well as direct study of human iPSC-neurons. The research technician will assist members of the research team to conduct experiments. They will additionally be responsible for the handling of routine mouse colony maintenance and ordering lab supplies. The technician will perform additional duties related to the ongoing research and management efforts of the laboratory. Excellent time management, communication and organizational skills essential to collect, analyze and appropriately document experimental results. Training in specialized research methods will be provided.Become an active member of a research team investigating neurodegenerative diseases, that includes Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal Dementia. Provide responsible technical assistance in support of research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to molecular biology and genetics, working under minimal supervision by a higher-level research staff member.
Job Duties
- Helps prepare and performs research experiments.
- Evaluates, analyzes data and documents results.
- Performs routine genetic, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, Western blotting, ELISA, and DNA cloning.
- Performs mouse genetic experiments, that includes assisting with upkeep of colonies, crossing of specific mouse strains, and genotyping.
- Works on differentiation and management of iPSC-neurons.
- Maintains detailed records of research activities that includes study protocols and records of results.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Assists with cleaning, and maintaining the laboratory area in a neat orderly condition.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.

- Has excellent time management, communication and organizational skills.
