Summary
Research Technician position is immediately available in the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (Baylor College of Medicine).The Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute is a partnership of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, two top tier institutions in research and healthcare. The NRI is equipped with the most advanced research tools for neuronal research and has top level researchers in all aspects on nervous system biology.The work performed in Dr. Ismael Al-Ramahi's laboratory will be part of theCenter for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases.The project focuses on finding therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases, by combining genomic tools with disease models in cells, Drosophila, and mice.The technician would be a recent college graduate, highly motivated, detail oriented, and eager to conduct independent research and learn a variety of techniques. The hired person will learn basic biochemical, molecular biology and genetic tools commonly used in all labs. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to perform state of the art techniques in behavioral testing, immune detection and genomic sequencing.
Job Duties
- Performs mouse and drosophila genotyping using PCR.
- Performs Western blot experiments.
- Performs Fourier Resonance Energy Transfer experiments.
- Conducts Immunofluorescence and Confocal microscopy.
- Works on paraffin embedding and slicing for immunohistochemistry.
- Conducts data analysis using ImageJ, photoshop, R-studio and excel.
- Records results in digital notebook and presents regularly in lab meetings
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent graduates looking to gain to research experience before pursuing graduate/medical education.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to take instruction.
- Good use of image processing software as well as PPT/Keynote.
- Be knowledgeable in statistics and using/programming in R (or similar) is a plus.
