Summary
The Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) seeks a full-time Hematopathologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Eligible candidates will have the opportunity to pursue tenure based on their academic accomplishments and contributions to the field with rank commensurate with experience. This faculty position is based in the Division of Laboratory Medicine, Department of Pathology at TCH with a tenure-track or tenured faculty appointment in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX).
Candidates will have the opportunity to actively engage in clinical, educational, research, and scholarly activities. We are looking for a dedicated hematopathologist who is collaborative, hardworking, and eager to implement and apply the latest developments in hematology and flow cytometry. TCH stands as the nation's largest children's hospital, consistently ranked in the top 4 in the U.S. News and World Report's Honor Roll of Best Children's Hospitals and is located in the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world.
Job Duties
- Perform hematopathology microscopic examination of bone marrow biopsies and aspirates, lymph nodes, and other relevant tissues, with total annual volume of > 1,100 cases.
- Integrate clinical information, morphology, flow cytometry, and cytogenetic molecular findings to deliver final pathologic diagnoses, with annual volume > 1,100 cases.
- Interpret clinical pathology tests, including hemoglobin profile, peripheral blood smear review, urine microscopic examination, and cerebrospinal fluid and other body fluid cytology, with a total annual volume > 5,500 cases.
- Provide after-hours and weekend call coverage for the hematology laboratory and hematopathology patient-related issues (13 weeks/year).
- Serve as an expert hematopathology consultant for Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated hospitals and practices
Opportunities:
- Eligibility to assume Directorship of the ACGME-accredited Hematopathology fellowship program at Baylor College of Medicine, admitting two fellows annually.
- Assume associate directorship of the hematology or flow cytometry laboratory.
- Engage in collaborative research within the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical campus globally.
- Contribute to educational and scholarly endeavors, including medical student and pathology and pediatric resident and fellow education.
Minimum Qualifications
- M.D., D.O., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree
- Board certification in Hematopathology, through the American Board of Pathology
- Eligibility for an active, unrestricted Texas Medical License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience as a practicing hematopathologist
