Summary

The Department of Pediatrics - House Staff Education is currently seeking a chief resident who serves as a direct report to the pediatric program director. Job duties include patient care, teaching, and administration. Those duties include but are not limited to the following:

PATIENT CARE

Direct care of patients at the Harris County Hospital District Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Clinic in Pasadena.

TEACHING

  • Teaching - Supervision/teaching of medical students; Supervision/teaching of residents providing patient care at Texas Children's Hospital and the Harris County Hospital District hospitals and clinics.
  • Scheduling and conducting teaching conferences.
  • Orientation of residents to their rotations.
  • Assist in evaluating and providing feedback to residents and medical students.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Serve as the primary liaison between residents and faculty members.
  • Creation and maintenance of residents’ yearly and daily schedules.
  • Helping ensure all regulatory requirements (e.g., those of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) with respect to residents are met.
  • Help address personnel issues involving residents (e.g., interpersonal conflicts, absence due to illness)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current PGY-3 pediatric resident in good standing with an ACGME-accredited training program.
  • Must graduate in June 2025 from an ACGME accredited residency training program and be prepared to start June 24, 2025. If accepted for the position, and if possible, we will coordinate with your current program to allow you to complete a "chief elective" rotation at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Must be American Board of Pediatrics eligible for initial certification in 2025.
  • Must have US citizenship or a J-1 Visa. No other visas will be considered.
