Job Description
Summary
The Behavioral Health Specialist, part of the Next Day Clinic initiative, will deliver assessments and therapy services to youth experiencing suicidal thoughts and behavior, as well as varying degrees of non-suicidal self-injury. This role may involve working with individuals and their families who have faced severe emotional disturbances or prior hospitalizations. The selected candidate will manage an assigned caseload using various treatment modalities within the Coordinated Specialty Care framework—a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach comprising behavioral health therapists, psychiatrists, case managers, and family navigators. Services will be offered through telehealth or in person sessions, tailored to the specific needs of each patient.
The position is based at Baylor College of Medicine within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This role involves servicing participants who are patients at Texas Children’s Hospital, in accordance with the collaborative consortium established between the two institutions.
Job Duties
- Conducts thorough assessments and provides therapeutic evidence-informed interventions for youth exhibiting suicidal thoughts, behaviors, or self-harm.
- Collaborates with patients and their families to develop tailored treatment plans that effectively address the unique mental health concerns of each individual patient.
- Manages case coordination, family support services and educational initiatives, as necessary.
- Works in partnership with psychiatrists, case managers, family navigators, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive and effective patient care.
- Ensures the timely and accurate completion of all required clinical documentation and statistical reports.
- Actively participates in individual and group clinical staff meetings as well as mandated departmental meetings and training.
- Fulfills additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor (LCSW-S), Licensed Professional Counselor -Supervisor (LPC-S).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work with youth presenting suicidal thoughts, behaviors, or self-harm.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
