Summary

Dr. Putluri's lab at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with expertise in massspectrometry to join our interdisciplinary team. This position focuses on applying advanced mass spectrometrytechniques in metabolomics and cancer /non-cancer metabolism. The successful candidate will be involved indeveloping and optimizing mass spectrometry-based methods to support ongoing research projects

Job Duties

  • Perform routine molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and cloning.
  • Conduct cell culture, transfections, and viral transductions as needed.
  • Perform daily monitoring and care of laboratory mice, including feeding, general health assessments, and record-keeping.
  • Assist in next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation or other advanced genomic techniques. Assist with or perform in vivo experiments, such as administering compounds via various routes (e.g., oral gavage, intraperitoneal or subcutaneous injections).
  • Collect tissue samples, blood, or other biological materials from mice for downstream molecular biology analyses (e.g., tumor tissue for metabolomics or genetic studies).
  • Utilize software for data analysis, such as Excel, R, or Python, and maintain accurate records in laboratory notebooks or electronic systems.
  • Develop and execute cutting-edge mass spectrometry workflows for targeted and untargeted metabolomics, lipidomics, and fluxomics studies.
  • Perform high-resolution mass spectrometry experiments using Orbitrap, QTRAP, or triple quadrupole instruments.
  • Assist with experimental design for collaborative projects. Candidates need to work with Lab Directors, Junior faculties, and postdoc.
  • Stay updated on advancements in mass spectrometry and implement new techniques to enhance laboratory capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field with experience in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, cancer biology, or a related field.
  • In depth knowledge of mass spectrometry instrumentation, such as Orbitrap or QTRAP, and liquidchromatography (LC-MS/MS) or gas chromatography (GC-MS) techniques.
  • Strong background in metabolomics, lipidomics, or fluxomics, with demonstrated expertise in data analysis andinterpretation.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Xcalibur, Analyst, Compound Discoverer, MetaboAnalyst).
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong track record of publications.
