Job Description

Summary

The Department of Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant with clinical knowledge to support the clinical operation within the department. This position is an outpatient position located at the McNair Campus in the Texas Medical Center with a general work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Job Duties

  • Ensures efficient clinic operation by providing clinical support within the department.
  • Collects vital information from the patient prior to an exam such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, and updates to electronic medical records within the Epic EMR system.
  • Preforms clinical POCT and vaccine administration as ordered by the provider.
  • Assists with medical triaging of patient needs via telephone triage or electronic communications with the patient through the MyChart system.
  • Assists with the cross training of new staff within the department and Live Answer program.
  • Assists with on-boarding of new staff within the department.
  • Preforms daily checks of inventory and central supplies within the department central supply room andand orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists with preforming quality checks of POCT within primary section (ex. dipstick quality checks, refrigerator temp checks).
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks supplies for various department needs.
  • Responds to routine patient phone calls and My Chart messages and routes to RN, ACP or MD as needed.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Assistsany and all teams in need of support. Support needed may be in the form of clinical tasks, triaging calls, completing faxes or medical forms, completing prior authorizations, various point of care testing (EKG, urine dip stick, specimen collection, etc.), and minor in office procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • No experience required.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT,NHA, NAHP,or AMCA).New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
