Job Description

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine's Occupational Health Program is actively recruiting for a Medical Assistant II.This position provides health services to employees and students of BCM. Experience and comfort with this population is helpful.The position entails understanding the different work environments across campus to help provide appropriate health services at the time of service.

The MA works as part of the clinic team to ensure that prompt and appropriate care is provided to our patient population.

This position is outpatient only, but does provide services on different parts of the campus at times.

Job Duties

  • Places and reads PPD tests; reports positive PPD readings.
  • Reviews and validates vaccine records.
  • Administers vaccines.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of employee records, accident reports.
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and POCTs.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and e-mails.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures and appointments.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes and referral information.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT,NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Occupational health experience.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office, other basic computer software)
  • Experience administering vaccinations and TB tests.
  • Comfortable using email and phone.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within a work setting.
