Job Description

The Research Operations Pharmacist I is responsible for the oversight of the preparation, compounding, and dispensing of investigational pharmaceuticals. Research Operations Pharmacist I is responsible for the safe and efficient dispensing of medications according to the laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy.

This position’s work location is onsite, full-time on campus in Longwood. Â

  • Practices as a pharmacist in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI, DF/HCC, and Joint Commission policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Appropriately prepares and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including non-sterile and sterile products, investigational medications, hazardous drugs, biologics, and controlled substance medications.
  • Ensure that investigational products are being prepared according to the established protocol and in consideration of patient parameters.
  • Documents and reports clinical interventions in the safety system; detects and reports safety concerns accurately, in a timely manner, and per policy.
  • Participates in investigational drug inventory management and investigational drug accountability (e.g., drug procurement, expiration date updates, cycle counts, drug destruction, receipt verification of investigational products, compounding records, etc.).
  • Effectively communicates with other members of the pharmacy, the patient, or care team to provide timely updates on status and order prioritization.
  • Ability to operate pharmacy-specific equipment.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

The Research Operations Pharmacist I, must meet the following requirements to be hired and maintain their position in the Pharmacy Department at DFCI.

Minimum Education:
All Pharmacists require a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy.ÂÂ

Minimum Experience:
1 year of hospital, ambulatory care, or sterile compounding experience required for Infusion. No prior pharmacist experience required for Outpatient.

License/Certification/Registration:
Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with other pharmacy team members, patients, providers, and other institutions.
  • Working knowledge of all technology, references, workflows, and protocol documentation required to perform primary job functions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently to meet deadlines, and adapt to changes in high-volume situations; accepts additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of the work setting.
