Job Description

The Translational Research Coordinator (TRC) will support the Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology Translational Research Program in the areas of patient consenting, sample processing, and data collection. The GI Oncology Translational Research Program supports various aspects of research for GI Cancers. This program is a bridge between clinical care and wet lab research and supports “bench to bedside” research. The projects that the program supports include the Hale Center for Pancreatic Research (https://halecenter.dfci.harvard.edu/), the OPTISMISTICC Research team through the Cancer Grand Challenges (https://cancergrandchallenges.org/teams/optimisticc), the Lustgarten Dedicated Research Lab (https://lustgarten.org/research/our-lab/), and many more innovative research projects. Duties include the facilitating consent to various GI Oncology Biobanking research protocols, processing blood samples for storage in the GI Biobank, and clinical data abstraction/monitoring of patient statuses. The TRC will support research projects for initiation to publication in collaboration with Project Managers.

  • Evaluating and tracking the eligibility of all patients seen in the clinic for inclusion in various studies
  • Responsible for consenting eligible patients in clinic.Â
  • Administration of patient questionnaires in clinic and electronically.
  • Reviewing and abstracting the medical records for patients. Entering the clinical data into the Clinical Research Information Systems (CRIS) and other REDCap databases.
  • Accessing patient demographic and clinical information from the clinical systems. Entering information into the database.
  • Assist principal investigators and staff in the creation of data reports for quality assurance measures and project specific needs.
  • Request tissue and medical records for various research needs.
  • Coordinates the collection, processing, organization, and storage of biological specimens including maintenance of electronic specimen tracking systems caTissue and laboratory binders.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 0-1 years of experience working in a medical or scientific research setting or comparable technology orientated business environment preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to follow-through.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
  • Must practice discretion and always adhere to institutional confidentiality guidelines.
  • Must have computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office.
