Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Augusta University invites applications for a post-doctoral position within the Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry in Dr. Guido Verbeck's group in the area of Bioanalytical Chemistry. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry resides in the College of Science and Mathematics on a top-ranked medical campus. Scientists in the Department work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment fostered by interactions across the many science and medical disciplines. Research areas of interest are in conventional and biological mass spectrometry, chromatography, and spectroscopy. Augusta University houses advanced core facilities with NMR, Mass Spectrometry, Spectroscopy, Microscopy, XRD, and High
Performance Computer cluster.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
Perform a variety of experimental studies including metabolomics, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments. Experiments will include but not be limited to advanced instrumental techniques as applied to metabolomics, lipidomics, structural biology, and microscopy.
Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally.
Compose articles for publication in scientific journals and participate in grant fund development.
Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Computational Science, or a related field, with a focus on computational chemistry or machine learning.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
A strong background in Molecular Biology is a must. Previous experience with the biological/biomedical applications of Raman Spectroscopy (RS) and Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) is highly desired.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree and demonstrated publication record in the area of bioanalytical chemistry with a strong track record in instrumentation, specifically mass spectrometry. The successful candidate is expected to develop and aid in the Laboratory for Imaging Mass Spectrometry's independent and novel research program, particularly in the area of novel bioanalytical techniques and instrumentation.

KNOWLEDGE
Basic competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and EndNote or willingness to learn.

Good oral and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday, (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
