Summary

The Barrozo Lab at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Technician I to support our cutting-edge research on maternal-fetal health, that includes studies on microplastic bioaccumulation, viral pathogenesis, and early immune development. The technician will play a crucial role in the multidisciplinary team, contributing to experiments involving both murine models and human tissue samples.
The Barrozo Lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms governing early immune development and the impact of environmental factors such as microplastics and viral infections on maternal and fetal health. Research aims to translate these findings into next-generation interventions to improve maternal-fetal outcomes. The lab utilizes state-of-the-art techniques including single-cell transcriptomics, spatial biology, and advanced bioinformatics to explore these complex interactions.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory experiments using murine models and human tissue samples.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes experimental data, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes findings to support ongoing research projects.
  • Documents experimental procedures and results meticulously.
  • Assists with maintaining and managing murine colonies, that includesgenotyping, setting up timed-matings, and monitoring health status.
  • Conducts molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, and Western blotting.
  • Performs cell culture assays.
  • Participates in lab meetings, presents findings, and collaborates with team members on various projects.
  • Utilizes bioinformatics tools for data analysis and interpretation, contributesto multi-omics projects.
  • Performs histological analyses and immunohistochemistry on tissue samples.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of relevant laboratory experience, preferably with mouse models.
  • Experience, or willingness to learn bioinformatics is highly desirable.
