  • Perform and review hydraulic calculations for determining acceptable water supply designed to meet fire suppression demands.
  • Develop emergency services baseline needs assessment to document the minimum services needed to support life safety and property protection.
  • Perform fire characterization analyses for a high volume of diverse chemical materials, enabling Research and Development organizations to maintain laboratory operations within the building safety basis envelope.
  • Participate in external industry consensus codes and standards, developing technical committees to help promote advancements in fire protection designs.

About Our Team:

The Building & Fire Safety Department provides for protection of workers, the public, the environment, and property from fire and its related hazards. We apply integrated technical judgment, requiring the use of the scientific method to recognize problems, collect data through observation and research, and to engineer, innovate, and deliver fire protection solutions, enabling Sandia National Laboratories to accomplish its missions, while protecting workers, the public, the environment, and key national assets. We apply knowledge in the fundamentals of science and engineering, while demonstrating a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles in a risk-informed, performance-based arena. Our team creates unique solutions by applying scientific and engineering methods to prevent and mitigate fire and life safety hazards in a highly regulated environment, including nuclear, accelerator, explosive, flammable liquids and solids, semi-conductor research, and test and manufacturing facilities. We see computational fire dynamic modeling simulation and analysis to evaluate and develop performance-based solutions in areas not addressed by the prescriptive industry consensus codes.
