The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is charged with conducting high-impact original biomedical research and translating the findings to clinical applications, and in educating future physicians and researchers. Research in the Department incorporates elements of basic and translational neuroscience, particularly as related to neuronal degeneration and regeneration. Research in the Stranahan lab addresses fundamental questions in the neuroscience of obesity using rodent models.

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our dynamic and fast-paced research team. The Fellow's primary duties require advanced knowledge in neuroscience, as reflected by prolonged, specialized, intellectual instruction and study at the graduate and postgraduate level. Qualified applicants should possess a strong background in cellular neuroscience and/or basic research in the pathophysiology of obesity, with significant practical and conceptual expertise in transgenic mouse models, advanced imaging techniques, and in vivo assessment of rodent behavior and/or metabolism. This position is 100% onsite (no teleworking) and the successful candidate will receive intensive support for their professional development and long-term goals.
The employee's primary duties require advanced knowledge in neuroscience, as reflected by prolonged, specialized, intellectual instruction and study at the graduate and postgraduate level. These duties include but are not limited to: experiments using transgenic mouse models; cell and molecular assays; advanced imaging techniques; performing behavioral tests and small animal surgery; analyzing and interpreting data and coordinating with PI on research plans.
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Carry out behavioral tests according to established protocols in the lab. Perform immunohistochemistry, PCR, real time PCR, western blotting, tissue culture, brain surgeries, and microscopic analysis. Maintain detailed records of all procedures according to prescribed formatting. Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques reported in published research. General management for labs and perform other duties as assigned.
Research in the Stranahan lab involves animal models of progressive disease.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Lab: Carry out behavioral tests according to established protocols in the lab.
PCR: Perform immunohistochemistry, PCR, real time PCR, western blotting, tissue culture, brain
surgeries, and microscopic analysis.
Records: Maintain detailed records of all procedures according to prescribed formatting.
Literature: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate
findings; develop derivative applications of techniques reported in published research.
Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
Other: General management for labs and perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and experience in neuroscience, biology, cell biology or other life science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned; extensive direct experience working with rodent models.
Qualified applicants should possess a strong background in cellular neuroscience and/or basic research in the pathophysiology of obesity, with significant practical and conceptual expertise in transgenic mouse models, advanced imaging techniques, and in vivo assessment of rodent behavior and/or metabolism.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, visual acuity, and fine motor control.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be capable of writing legibly, working safely around biological materials, washing glassware, and dealing appropriately with sharps, remembering storage locations, and monitoring lab inventory and supplies. All experimental outcomes vary over a 24hr cycle, so the successful candidate must be capable of arriving on time and maintaining a set schedule. Because research animals are very sensitive to smell, staff are not permitted to wear perfume, cologne, aftershave, or other strongly scented personal care products.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Grant funded position (Funding currently expected to end on 4/30/2028 Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
