Under general direction, the Database Architect (DBA) has duties of instructing, directing, and checking the work of other database systems and personnel. Works independently and mentors other DBA team members to design, develop and maintain the enterprise technical platform infrastructure. The principal function of the position is to provide a high-quality, secure, and resilient platform that supports the AU business and research needs. Database Architect provides the highest level of technical support and are subject matter experts on the integration and development of multiple complex enterprise systems. The Database Architect defines the technical specifications and planning for new, as well as existing enterprise systems. They also lead, mentor, and coordinate the efforts of database team members and other technical services staff to ensure that the technical roadmap supports the needs of the organization. The role includes working autonomously and as part of various teams and involves creating specifications, obtaining quotes, and defining cost-effective procurement of technical components for projects in order to meet project delivery timelines. A key focus of the position is to help ensure the success of the Systems team in achieving its strategic and financial goals, which correlate to the mission.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
DATABASE ADMINISTRATION ACTIVITIES (ORACLE AND/OR SQL SERVER) TO INCLUDE: Installing and configuring new instances of the RDBMS, restoring the database from backups after a failure, designing and writing maintenance scripts, monitoring and tuning performance. Designs and architect's database environments.
CREATE STRATEGIC PLANNING: Work closely with the Manager of Research Technology to create strategic planning for the group as it relates to enterprise goals and priorities. Act as a mentor to all DBAs.
MONITOR VENDOR SITES FOR UPGRADES AND PATCHES: Install, configure, and test in accordance with specific new software releases and upgrades. Diagnose and correct system problems resulting from upgrades, enhancements, modifications, and application bugs.
FOLLOW INSTITUTIONAL POLICIES: Ensure institutional policies and procedures concerning system and user operations are followed to maintain system and data integrity. Maintain documentation for all system-related processes.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field with nine years of experience with Oracle RDBMS, including SQL and/or PL/SQL as well as DBA-related duties.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday- Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B16
Salary Minimum: $95,200/ annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
