Job Description
Summary
The Lab Helper is responsible for the preparation and quality control of media, buffer solutions, and plates essential for laboratory experiments. This role involves precise formulation and sterilization processes to ensure optimal conditions for research and testing. The helper will collaborate with research staff to support diverse projects, maintaining a clean and organized lab environment. Pays attention to details and adherence to safety protocols which are critical for success in this position. This is a part-time position, 20 hours/week.
Job Duties
- Cleans and sterilizes glassware.
- Prepares and sterilizes standard solutions, media, buffers, and plates.
- Ensures accurate measurements and formulations to meet specific project requirements.
- Cleans various lab equipment that includes metal instruments, sinks, and tables.
- Handles the retrieval, washing, drying, sterilization, and redistribution of laboratory glassware, operates autoclaves and dishwashers, and performs additional related duties as needed.
- Involves in equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Maintainsan inventory of lab supplies.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Has strong organizational skills and a keen attention to details, as accuracy in preparation is critical for successful lab outcomes.
- Has strong communication skills are also important for effective collaboration with research teams.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and experience with sterilization techniques are essential for maintaining a safe working environment.
- A background in biological sciences or a related field, along with proficiency in laboratory equipment will enhance the candidate's effectiveness in this position.
- Proficiency in dilution and concentration calculations is necessary, along with the ability to carry out general maintenance tasks in the lab.
