Job Description
The successful candidate will perform research to understand the relationships between interfacial structure and ion transport in solid-state batteries (e.g., Na, Zn). The candidate, located in the Interfacial Processes Group (Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division), will use a combination of synchrotron X-ray based tools (e.g., X-ray reflectivity, tomographic imaging, x-ray diffraction, spectroscopy) and in-house capabilities (e.g., scanning probe microscopy, optical holographic imaging, scanning electron microscopy).
The work involves designing and performing experiments, interpretation and analysis of experimental data, and the presentation of results at scientific conferences and in the peer-reviewed literature.
Position Requirements
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in physics, materials science, or chemistry, at the Ph.D. degree level (with a concentration in areas such as X-ray science or interfacial science), with zero to five years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience
Considerable knowledge of energy storage systems, experience with in-situ and operando studies, sample synthesis and preparation, and programming for data analysis
Good skills in oral and written communication with a record of publication and external recognition
Experience with synchrotron x-ray based measurements to probe structure and reactivity (e.g., X-ray reflectivity, X-ray imaging) is desired
Ability to work interactively, productively, and independently in a multidisciplinary environment and within a multi-institution collaboration
This position may require travel for work at out-of-state synchrotron facilities when needed
