Job Description
The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a Research Scientist to provide technical expertise to Division programs in areas related to development of programs in nuclear engineering focused on operating VVER reactors in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, safety analyses of dry spent fuel storage systems, including centralized and on-site. Successful candidates will act as technical project lead and sponsor liaison for communicating project requirements to the recipient countries/entities. The selected candidate will be responsible for organizing, conducting, facilitating and coordinating technical meetings and projects with foreign organizations which are collaborators on sponsored projects.
You can expect to:
Oversee the selected project planning and implementation of workshops, mentoring collaborators in Ukraine on developing operational procedures as requested by US DOE, developing training methodologies and simulator courses focused on new/and amended operational procedures.
Participate in preparation of project reporting documentation which meets requirements outlined in sponsor’s program guidelines
Assist the Program Manager with preparation of technical proposals, budgets and related materials
Assist the Program Manager with execution of programs aiding Ukraine nuclear utility and nuclear power plants
Participate in safety analysis projects related to safe operation of VVER NPPs in Ukraine in war conditions, such as DBA and BDBA analyses.
Position Requirements
Advance knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices.
Ability to understand and run models of operator training simulators
Establish and maintain direct communication with sponsoring agencies, such as US Department of Energy, State Department and the
Proficiency of the technical Ukrainian language with knowledge of Ukrainian nuclear power terminology
Prior experience in large international teams working with VVER technologies
Experience handling logistics for international meetings.
Experience in managing projects and understanding international export control issues.
Knowledge of foreign protocol.
