What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Technologist to work within advanced concepts and mission payloads for missile defense applications. You will be joining a department that develops and integrates system and subsystem components for missile defense applications supporting lab testing, mission integration and fielding flight systems. You would also integrate into a team that is developing, testing, and flying mission payloads. This position will include both laboratory and field-testing operations. Moderate travel may be required to support project meetings, reviews, and field/flight test.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

  • Supports engineers on technical projects and products working from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions.
  • Establishes and executes inspections before systems are processed or installed.
  • Monitors work practices and ensures that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Works with engineering and development during new product or facility start-ups and implements key checkpoints for new products and processes.
  • Deals with the acceptability of labeling and packaging materials and maintain an inspection and approval system.

Due to the nature of the role, this candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$70,200 - $135,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associates degree in relevant engineering or technology field; OR equivalent (high school + 4 years experience)
  • Ability to support assembly, integration, test, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electromechanical assemblies at the system and component levels.
  • Experience working in laboratory or field environments.
  • Knowledge and experience with installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining equipment or systems.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings .
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and understand component design drawings, mechanical and electrical drawings, and engineering authorizations.
  • Experience preparing and presenting systems and equipment reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories’ policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting equipment and systems maintenance and engineering.
  • Ability to interpret and apply knowledge and practical understanding of equipment and systems theory and principles.
  • Ability to use Sandia's engineering systems to retrieve drawings and engineering authorizations.
  • Ability to support integrated system design, development, and qualification.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software.
  • Experience working with classified and hazardous materials/hardware.

About Our Team:

The Advanced Concepts and Mission Payloads department is focused on defining advanced technology concepts and future target mission requirements in support of Missile, Air and Space Defense programs. Additionally, the department tests concepts both experimentally and in flight to deliver modeling and simulation truth data, while providing mission payloads in support of Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System.
