What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Z Center Section Execution team is seeking a R&D team lead to coordinate the team. This team works non-standard hours (2 p.m.-10:30 p.m. plus potential overtime) and the successful candidate will need to be in contact during these hours. The team lead does not necessarily need to be present for the entire shift, but should be present for the majority (e.g. 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. on a standard schedule) and on call for the remainder should issues arise.
On any given day you may be called upon to:
- Coordinate support of the section by partners.
- Manage resources and assignments to ensure:
- Readiness for experiment activities
- Execution of machine maintenance
- Planning and implementation of team member development and training
- Provide status updates to the Department Manager regarding:
- Team members development, progress, issues, and concerns
- Section process deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
- Working with the team to develop:
- Long term plans for department improvement
- Availability and activity calendars for the team
- Development plans for team members
- Coordinate machine and equipment enhancements and upgrades.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedule.
- Provide primary management team point of contact for team members during non-standard hours.
- Ability and willingness to work non-standard hours (provide oversight to a 2:00p.m. -10:30 p.m. shift that will also work overtime).
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$127,900 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM field plus 5 years’ experience or equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
- Managing or working in a high hazard laboratory environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance

About Our Team:
The high hazard operations department at the Z machine has several parts:
- The center section team, divided into morning and evening shifts, refurbishes and loads experiments into the Z vacuum chamber.
- Operational responsibility for high hazard experiments on Z (Primarily ones involving radioactive material).
- Review of environmental, safety, and health concerns for experiments at Z.
- Storage and disposal of hardware.

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
