Supervisor, Clinical Pathology - Hematology

This position reports to the Manager of Hematology and serves as a working supervisor. It functions as the general laboratory supervisor for testing personnel, as authorized by the laboratory director. The role requires qualifications to supervise and perform designated waived, moderate, and high complexity clinical laboratory testing under the Clinical Pathology Hematology Laboratory, as established by the Chair of Pathology, Medical Director, and Administrative Director of Pathology. As a member of the Division of Clinical Pathology leadership team, the position contributes to achieving the objectives of The City of Hope and the Department of Pathology. The role adheres to established policies, procedures, and guidelines related to performance improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control, and upholds a high level of integrity and confidentiality in compliance with the City of Hope’s workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Ensure section policies and procedures are up-to-date, monitor quality control programs, and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee personnel management, including hiring, training, and maintaining valid licenses and qualifications for all testing personnel.
  • Review and analyze financial reports, prepare operational budgets, and participate in the annual budget review process.
  • Maintain lab supply and reagent inventory according to LEAN Six Sigma principles, and manage instrument service contracts.
  • Research and suggest new technologies to improve efficiency and productivity, and develop cost-effective procedures.
  • Investigate TIPs reports, collaborate with other departments to solve problems, and monitor critical test value notification practices.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related biological sciences
  • Completion of 1 year practical training in an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years in a clinical laboratory with emphasis in Hematology/Coagulation or related discipline, leadership, competency in organization, human relation, communication, problem-solving, statistical analysis and computer skills, knowledge in lab information
  • State of California Clinical Lab Scientist license.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $54.78 - $91.49 / hour
