We currently have a Postdoctoral Fellowship position in protein crystallography and drug discovery that is available as a joint position in the labs of Dr. Jianjun Chen, Chair of Department of Systems Biology and Deputy Director of Center for RNA Biology and Therapeutics, and Dr. Jeff Perry, Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Diagnostics and Experimental Therapeutics, at City of Hope Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. The research is focused on fragment - and small molecule-based drug discovery approaches against RNA/DNA epigenetic targets, RNA methylation and post-transcriptional regulation. The research includes determining structures of fragment, RNA probe, and small molecule:protein target co-complexes and using biophysical approaches, including thermal shift assays, isothermal calorimetry and/or surface plasmon resonance.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Devise, plan, document and advance science-based projects in structural biology and drug discovery.
  • Generate data for grant applications and prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Work in close collaboration with other team members and external collaborators, including presentation of progress internally or externally.
  • Train and supervise technical staff.
  • Have the unique possibility to drive research towards the development of novel cancer therapies at the interface of science and translation to the clinic and publish high-impact journals.

Your qualifications should include:

  • A PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, or related discipline with a strong background in protein crystallography is required.
  • Evidence of scientific rigor and excellence as documented by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced research environment and manage multiple projects and collaborations.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both spoken and written.
