Job Description

Summary

The Zhao lab is interested in exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms, as well as the neurocircuitry underlying our interoception. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our lab at Baylor College of Medicine. The ideal candidate will assist in conducting experiments, managing laboratory supplies, and maintaining equipment. Key responsibilities include supporting ongoing research projects, performing data analysis, and collaborating with team members.

The Research Assistant will be expected to work collaboratively with other lab members, including postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and principal investigators. Effective communication, a strong sense of responsibility, and teamwork are essential for the success of our research projects.

Job Duties

Generic Duties:

  • Conduct routine laboratory experiments and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and other materials necessary for experiments.
  • Record, analyze, and interpret data accurately.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Provide general support to researchers and students within the lab.

Specific Position Duties:

  • Assist in the development and execution of research projects related to interoception.
  • Perform basic techniques, such as PCR, cell cultures.
  • Manage and maintain some mouse lines.
  • Orders lab supplies.
  • Use advanced microscopy and imaging techniques to analyze samples.
  • Contribute to the preparation of animal protocol, research manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and collaborative projects within the department.
  • Work closely with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students
  • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure all research activities comply with institutional and federal regulations.
  • Adhere to ethical standards in the conduct of research, particularly in the handling of biological samples and data management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in biological sciences, neuroscience, immunology, and computational science
  • Master\'s degree in basic science or a related field.
