Job Description
The Acquisitions Librarian will manage the licensing of electronic information resources and coordinate acquisitions workflows, ensuring our Research Library offers the essential content that fosters scientific exploration and innovation. This role provides an opportunity to create compelling business cases for library information products and proposals for improving business processes.
Responsibilities
License Management and Acquisitions
Evaluate, order, and coordinate payment for library content subscriptions and print materials in compliance with procurement policies.
Review and manage content licenses to ensure they meet user needs and organizational standards.
Actively contribute to the development of collection policies.
Provide guidance on copyright, reuse permissions, article processing charges, transformative agreements, and publication strategies.
Vendor Relations
Liaise with vendors to ensure subscription content meets current needs.
Conduct market analysis to identify new products and services for the library.
Participate in evaluating vendors and identifying group purchasing opportunities.
Financial Reporting
Prepare budget reports for library acquisitions and article processing charges.
Develop expenditure forecasts based on historical data and industry trends.
Respond to internal financial audit requests.
Position Requirements
To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
Knowledge of publishing industry license agreements, library acquisitions, cataloging workflows, and procurement processes.
Experience in vendor relationship management and negotiation.
Skills to manage program and project budgets effectively.
Professional communication skills for engaging with colleagues from varied functional backgrounds, particularly in customer service settings.
Ability to lift cartons of materials up to 50 pounds and push heavy rolling carts.
Work in a hybrid environment with two or more days on-site in Lemont, Illinois; with the ability to work fully onsite if preferred by the applicant.
Experience in Ex Libris Alma LMS is preferred.
The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA2 or PA3) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:
PA2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2+ years of experience or equivalent
PA3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4+ years of experience or equivalent
