Summary
The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable Medical Assistant II to be a part of the Gastroenterology group to support our clinicians providing services to patients.
The Medical Assistant, under supervision of the Clinic Nurses and practice providers is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. The candidate must possess a proactive, team-oriented attitude. It is the responsibility of this position to contribute to a patient centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first.
Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities including, but not limited to, rooming and vital signs.
- Notes the primary complaint/reason for the visit.
- Collects patient histories and enters medications into medical record.
- Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scanning patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed.
- Schedules & preps colonoscopy/EGD for when patient is in clinic for specific provider assigned.
- Reviews patients’ medications list and identifies any medications which require attention or medications that need to be stopped before procedure.
- Refills medications and performs prior authorizations per GI protocol.
- Contacts and responds to patients via MyChart and/or telephone.
- Utilizes Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams to communicate with physicians and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT,NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
