Job Description
Summary
The Medical Assistant II-Float Pool position is a float position that the MA will be assigned to various BCM clinics/locations. The MA should be proficient in taking vital signs, giving medications by various forms in their scope of practice, EMR, phone etiquette, flexible, and a fast learner.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is flexible, eager to learn, excellent communication skills, great customer service skills, great work ethics and a passion for helping others. Proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems preferably (EPIC). Comfortable with standing and moving around for long periods of time.
Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.
- Collects patient health history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in EPIC.
- Administers Injections and medications as directed by medical provider.
- Notes the chief complaint/reason for patient's visit.
- Prepares equipment, examination rooms and clean instruments as directed.
- Assists with medical procedures and exams as needed.
- Instructs patients on general care and medicine procedures.
- Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
- Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
- Uses the Ring Central-Live Answer to answer clinical calls (department specific).
- Responds to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages and route to RN, ACP or Physician as needed.
- Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
- Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
- Is always flexible, dependable, hardworking, be adaptable, and willing to work in a float pool position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two or more years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP,or AMCA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPIC electronic medical records experience.
