Job Description

Summary

Postdoctoral fellow position in a laboratory studying animal models of Mendelian forms of epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorder. The laboratory has established mouse lines expressing human variants in the gene Kcnq2. Postdoc will participate in interdisciplinary studies of these animals, including behavioral analysis, electrophysiology, biochemistry, and mRNA expression. Incumbent will collaborate with PI and other trainees in studies, grants, and publications, while developing a trajectory towards career independence.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Conducts molecular, biochemical, anatomical, and electrophysiological studies of genetic models of epilepsy involving ion channel mutations. May establish new research protocols and procedures.
  • Readsthe literature, and collaborates with team members to develop new assays and approaches.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. May be responsible for laboratory operations.
  • Supervises and conducts animal husbandry of mutant lines housed in animal facility, maintains records of census and euthanasia
  • Conducts bench experiments including western blot, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, mouse behavior analysis, EEG
  • Drafts papers in first author role, revises and approves papers in middle author role.
  • Supervises research staff and contributes to day-to-day guidance of less experienced lab trainees. Both informally helps to set positive lab culture through eager engagement, and with PI assignment, more formally serves as bench mentor for less experience team members (students and technicians).

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • This lab works in close collaboration within a disease area community that includes other established research labs and family led private foundations. Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse partners is an important skill that.
