What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Electrical Lead to help execute a Rapid System Integration project under the 2400-led initiative called PHOENIX. This position will be fast-paced and aggressive, aimed at complete integration of a new, challenging system prototype within a very short timeframe, using new, unique, set-apart facilities, and amongst a small, experienced system team. You will help us "break the glass" and. You will be part of this new team to help Sandia realize the PHOENIX motto that "Deterrence is our Dividend".

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Demonstrate new ways of design, build, and test to increase Sandia's and the Weapons Complex's readiness to meet urgent system needs.
  • Partner across Sandia Labs and other sites (e.g. Los Alamos National Labs, Lawrence Livermore, Pantex, Kansas City National Security Complex) to accomplish project mission objectives.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum 8 years of experience in Nuclear Weapons design (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of recognized leadership experience (Product Realization Team Lead, Systems Lead, etc.).
  • Experience delivering prototype hardware.
  • Demonstrated practice of circuit modeling in electrical design.
  • Direct experience with nuclear weapon safety and related components.
  • Active DOE Q-level (or DOD equivalent) security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum 4 years of experience in Nuclear Weapons design (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of and user-experience with computer aided circuit-electrical design, printed circuit board layout, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Knowledge of and user-experience the qualification process.
  • Knowledge of and user-experience non-destructive evaluation technologies.
  • Knowledge of and user-experience with Aging and Lifetimes/Enhanced Surveillance activities.
  • Component or System-level design trades experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Agile product development.

About Our Team:

The Exploratory Nuclear Deterrent Systems Department, 2436, is a National leader in threat informed nuclear weapon system concept design and technology assessment. We provide leadership to the Nuclear Deterrence portfolio at Sandia in order to complete new nuclear weapon concept exploration, guide necessary technology maturation, and demonstrate system integration for options that span the Technology Readiness Level scale. Department 2436 is a multidisciplinary engineering team with experience ranging from integrated hardware flight testing, nuclear weapon component design, program execution with external partners, early weapon program design, beyond horizon technologies, and strategic technology planning. We regularly interact with NNSA and our DOD partners to establish the art of the possible at Sandia.

We anticipate future deterrence needs to mitigate technical surprise on all timescales of interest to National Security.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
