Job Description

We invite you to apply to join our Financial Managment and Procurement Services division as an Accountant. In this role, you will perform a variety of accounting, analysis, and reporting activities, all in accordance with Laboratory policies and procedures, Department of Energy guidelines, the Prime Contract, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Cost Accounting Standards, and applicable Federal and State regulations. The Accountant interacts on a regular basis with Laboratory management and Divisional representatives, the Department of Energy, and outside vendors, sponsors, and agencies. The Accountant is expected to contribute to special projects as they arise while also adhering to the specific deadlines of the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial analysis and administers activities associated with centrally-managed projects and financial administration.

  • Responsible for daily and monthly accounting activities and submits journal entries accurately and timely.

  • Prepares monthly account reconciliations.

  • Pulls critical data from multiple sources, integrates and analyzes data.

  • Produces required monthly reporting data to internal stakeholders and the Department of Energy

  • Closely coordinates and communicates with internal colleagues.

  • Provides ongoing process improvement suggestions for financial processes.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for financial management.

  • Knowledge, skills, and experience, including using advanced features with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing through email or chat channels.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to interact effectively, tactfully and discreetly with all internal/external contacts and to develop effective working relationships. Superior team mentality

  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize, organize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, while being detail oriented and using sound independent judgment to accomplish tasks on time.

  • Ability to understand detailed and complex processes and associated policies and government regulations

  • Must have considerable ability to proactively identify issues, investigate, and recommend solutions or process improvements.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, ingenuity, and creativity, and the ability to solve problems independently.

  • Skill in analyzing, editing, and recording consistent, accurate, and timely financial information.

  • Skill in setting work priorities, handling multiple assignments for multiple people, and time management.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to new procedures and technology.
