Summary
The Department of Neurology is looking to recruit an Advance Practice Provider for the Epilepsy service. A successful candidate will be able to treat patients in a clinical setting under the direction of a physician.
The Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine provides personalized care for patients with neurological disease, trains medical students and residents in clinical care and research, conducts research to advance the art and science of neurology, and provides meaningful new therapies for patients.
Job Purpose
Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
- Obtain detailed patient history and perform physical examinations on patients with Neurological concerns.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
- Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Effectively communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
- Contribute to the subspecialist team environment by collaborating with physicians and other providers.
- Partner with practice management and staff to identifying appropriate patients for care management.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the practice through by exceeding quality standards and patient experience metrics.
- Ensure adherence to college policies and medical standards.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
For Nurse Practitioner:
- Master's degree in in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner. Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department.
For Physician Assistant:
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation. Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong communication skills with the ability to address health concerns with patients in a clear and respectful manner.
- Ability to display a professional and positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across the Practice.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Epic (electronic medical record).
