Job Description

Summary

Full-time position working with an indigent, uninsured population. Directly responsible for supervising all dental staff, volunteers, and externship students. The Dentist will coordinate with a primary care model and multidisciplinary team approach to dental care. Will practice dentistry, providing urgent, preventative, and restorative care to clients on site. This position is contracted through Baylor College of Medicine with salary commensurate with experience, including excellent benefits.

Job Duties

  • Serve as a member of the senior management team of Healthcare for the Homeless - Houston (HHH)
  • Participate in weekly management team meetings.
  • Participate in strategic and overall organizational planning.
  • Play a key role in assessing the dental department's strategic direction, as it fits into the organization's overall direction.
  • Oversee and provide patient care.
  • Develop patient treatment plans.
  • Perform diagnosis of dental patients' needs from radiographic and clinical exams; Interpret and document radiographs in patient charts.
  • Provide urgent, restorative, and preventative care to HHH clients.
  • Oversee other dental clinicians' development of treatment plans, including periodic audits for quality control, diagnostics, and patient care.
  • Respond promptly and directly address patient and staff concerns and complaints.
  • Serve as liaison with community-based agencies and other homeless services provider agencies; Develop relevant partnerships and outreach opportunities.
  • Supervise and evaluate on at least an annual basis all non-faculty dental employees; Develop and monitor performance indicators and institute corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Work with the Dental Assistant to train dental clinic volunteers.
  • Assure that staff, volunteers, and externship students comply with standard policies and procedures.
  • Assure that staff, volunteers, and externship students accurately document the clinical services rendered.
  • Work with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Director to develop, implement, and monitor the quality assurance and/or quality improvement plan(s).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Texas.
  • 3 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with the indigent and/or homeless population is preferred.
  • Prior experience in oral surgery and removeable prosthodontics is highly preferred.

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Understands rules and regulations concerning ancillary services, medical/dental records, licensure, credentialing, and patient accounting.
  • Understands the rules and regulations established by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and the Dental Practice Act.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate workflow and systems.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and development of staff and overall department.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Understands how to motivate and supervise individuals.
  • Create an environment where the faculty, residents, staff, and volunteers understand that the needs of patients come first.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, administrative and financial information.
  • Assumes responsibility for own actions, behavior, quality of work and productivity.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and actions.
  • Interacts tactfully with physicians, staff, patients, and peers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Not normally required to exert physical effort, other than standing to provide patient care.

Frequently handles/works with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, such as those found in an ordinary laboratory or clinic environment.
