What Your Job Will Be Like:

We’re seeking a Integrated Circuit (IC) Physical Layout Engineer to join our team. Our group develops products for DOE weapons and satellite systems, the intelligence community, high energy physics research, and trusted microelectronics applications. We’re searching for a teammate with deep curiosity, commitment and collaboration that utilizes advanced CAD tools and CMOS semiconductor technologies to support IC product development.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform:
  • IC physical layout on complex, advanced node mixed-signal designs in accordance with foundry design rules to ensure products are manufacturable, reliable and will meet all electrical performance requirements.
  • PCB layout for test boards for the ICs you help realize.
  • Develop:
  • Custom analog and mixed signal ICs, microprocessors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), digital signal processors, SRAMs, NVMs, high performance and communication devices.
  • Test methodologies for IC verification, working with test engineering to ensure characterization and validation of all functional requirements.
  • Targeted behavioral simulation testbenches and associated test scripts.
  • Light electrical laboratory test setup planning, design and circuit debugging.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering or STEM field
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in any of the following:
  • IC layout using Cadence, Siemens, and/or Synopsys EDA tools
  • Custom integrated circuit design
  • Integrated circuit verification (e.g. LVS, DRC, PEX)
  • Electrical test and debug
  • PCB layout
  • Scripting (Python, Jump or Matlab in particular)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with any of the following:
  • Laying out custom mixed signal circuitry at advanced FinFET nodes especially including GlobalFoundries 12nm and TSMC 7nm processes
  • RF circuit design and layout including non-CMOS processes (e.g. GaN)
  • Analog/mixed-signal IC design
  • Behavioral testbenches
  • Design for Test (DFT) methodologies including BIST and ATPG
  • Digital Memories including modern Error Correcting Codes
  • High speed communication protocols
  • Radiation mitigation techniques
  • Laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, waveform generators, power supplies, etc)
  • Advanced packaging, especially C4 (controlled collapse chip connection) flip-chip and copper pillar flip-chip
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and debug integrated circuits in a laboratory environment, including data evaluation and interpretation
  • Development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports, and design history documentation
  • Proven teamwork, effective leadership, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills in diverse team environments

About Our Team:

The Advanced CMOS Products and Design department develops and maintains digital, analog, and mixed-signal design and realization expertise. We have a deep understanding of technology offerings and design methodologies to provide custom microelectronic products and engineering services that fulfill the diverse needs of our customers including weapons systems, satellite systems, the intelligence community, armed services, other government agencies, the Sandia research community, and commercial industry.

We are a Category 1A accredited Defense MicroElectronics Activity (DMEA) Trusted Design Center. We provide ASIC Design Services in both radiation-hardened and non-radiation-hardened Foundries (350nm, 180nm, 130nm, 90nm, 65nm, 45nm, 32nm, 14nm, and 7nm). We are also involved in microelectronics research and development for next generation microelectronics in support of laboratory directed research and development (LDRD) and external sponsors. In addition to IC product development, the department works closely with our in-house radiation hardened CMOS technology group to maintain state-of-the-art radiation-hardened CMOS research, design, and production capability.
